Retirement Community at Ferrero Road

The success of this project rests in the hands of the community.
Why Ferrero Road?
A needs assessment study has identified a strong demand for this type of facility and the Ferrero Road site offers a low cost of land - $20 per square metre (compared to land of up to $300 per square metre in zoned areas)
This current site has not been used for agricultural purposes for over 20 years and is the perfect location for a facility of this kind as it is close to rural walking and cycling areas, supermarkets, churches and the town centre.
Port Douglas needs quality low cost retirement facilities to cater for its ageing population.
Extensive earthworks and planting on the Ferrero Road site will ensure the development is not visible from the Cook Highway.
Summary
This type of facility has proved to be successful in many other parts of Queensland and with an ever increasing aging population the need for such a facility is growing by the day.
Our goal is to create an integrated community with existing locals and new arrivals to the area. The Ferrero Road Retirement Community will enhance the range of existing facilities available.
For locals wanting to be a part of this new retirement community, special assistance will be given to those who wish to achieve residency. Preferencial pricing will be provided to Shire locals along with a variety of fi nancial assistance packages. There are no entry or exit fees.
While the development requires the rezoning of the land, its current zoning will ensure that the land component is an affordable part of the retirement dwellings. The conditions that the Department of Main Roads have imposed as part of the project will assist traffic flow patterns approaching the Cook Highway/Port Douglas intersection.
